My pastel painting was awarded First Place in the Pastel National 2016! It’s a portrait of a Weimaraner illuminated by dramatic warm sunlight. I named it “Ghost” because the dog seems to appear out of the darkness of the furniture on which he is laying.
I have a second painting in the exhibition, entitled “Promise,” a painting of one of my very young students at an easel, painting a portrait of her dog while the pet looks on.
Hue and I attended the opening in Wichita the evening of Friday, April 1, with friends Chuck and Karen Stoner, owners of the Weimaraner, whose name is Max. It was quite an exciting evening, with several hundred art enthusiasts in attendance.
This juried exhibition exclusively for pastels is currently on display at the Wichita Center For The Arts in Wichita, Kansas, through May 8, 2016. The bi-annual exhibition is considered a premier event for the nation’s leading pastelists, and features 74 paintings.
